Rhinoplasty, nose reshaping surgery, can have both cosmetic and functional benefits.  Rhinoplasty not only improves the aesthetic value of the nose, but can also help improve the balance and harmony of the face and improve self-confidence.  A rhino-septoplasty may also benefit those with structural abnormalities that cause impaired breathingDr. Totonchi has a great passion, and extensive experience in performing rhinoplasty/rhino-septoplasty surgery.

A rhinoplasty can allow for changes from minor to dramatic alterations to be made to the nose. The size of the nose can be altered to achieve balance with other parts of the face.  The nasal profile can be improved by smoothing bumps and indentations. Alterations can be made to the angle of the nose, definition to the nasal tip, alter the nasal width, and restore proper nasal symmetry and correct deviations. Dr. Totonchi can also improve or restore the appearance of the nose after an accident, trauma, or previous nasal surgery.

A septoplasty is done to improve breathing by making modifications of the inner nasal structures.  Corrections can be made such as turbinate reduction and straightening of a deviated septum.

If any augmentation is needed to any area of the nose, it can be achieved by harvesting cartilage from the septum, ear or chest wall.  During the surgery, once the desired nasal contour is achieved, the incisions are closed, and lined following along the natural creases of the nose to reduce scar visibility.

The combined procedure, rhino-septoplasty, if needed, is done to not only achieve facial balance but to correct difficulties with nasal breathing. Even subtle adjustments can make dramatic results with the rhinoplasty/rhino-septoplasty procedure.  By improving the structure and function of the nose, giving a cosmetic and functional improvement, in many cases, insurance can cover the functional portion of the surgery, the septoplasty, but will not cover the cosmetic portion of any rhinoplasty surgery.  Our office will work with you and submit the proper paperwork to request insurance authorization.

A splint will be placed on the outside of the nose to help support the new shape of the nose as it heals.  In the case of septoplasty, or straightening of the nasal septum, nasal stents are placed inside the nose and are removed in 1-2 weeks.

Bruising to the nose and possibly under the eyes may last 7-10 days while, swelling to the nose may last for a few weeks. Do not be alarmed if the swelling comes and goes during recovery, as this is completely normal.  Once the swelling subsides, you will begin to see your new nose contour, define and develop. Your new nasal contour and shape will fully refine at about one year after your surgery.
