Skin laxity or protrusion in the abdominal area is one of the most common concerns we get from both men and women here at our Cleveland plastic surgery practice. Every so often, these clients have tried almost everything — from diet to exercise — to make their midsection flatter, firmer, and more well-toned. But is there a perfect time to have a tummy tuck?
By and large, a tummy tuck may is ideal if you answer yes to the following questions:
Are you within or close to your ideal weight but can’t seem to get rid of the loose skin and fat in the abdominal area? A tummy tuck is not a weight loss tool but rather a body-contouring procedure.
Are you done giving birth? Future pregnancies can cause your abdominal muscles to re-separate, compromising the results of your tummy tuck.
Are your a non-smoker or willing to quit smoking for at least 6 weeks before and after surgery? Smoking before and after the surgery can significantly delay healing and increase your risk of post-surgery complications such as infection.
