Your Quick Guide to Getting the Most Out of Botox Treatments

Botox does it again! For the past few years and that of last year, it remains to be the most frequently requested non-surgical cosmetic procedure. For 2013, there were roughly 3.7 million Botox treatments given in the United States alone. Here at our Cleveland cosmetic surgery practice, we have noticed the same trend over the years. This should not come as a surprise as Botox really delivers what it promises – keep wrinkles at bay!

With tons of information available online, it’s not uncommon to get more confused about Botox and which cosmetic issues benefit from it the most. Fret not! We have come up with a quick yet definitive guide below about Botox and how to get the most out of it.

1. First of all, it’s all about choosing the right injector. So what does it mean to have a “right” injector? By and large, the doctor, nurse, or health care professional who will administer your Botox injection should have the following qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of facial anatomy acquired through advanced training

  • Knows how to inject botox based on aesthetic standards and patient preferences

  • Has clear concern for the patient’s safety and satisfaction

  • Honest, sincere, and has excellent communication skills

2. Once you’ve found the right injector, figure out if Botox is the right treatment for your cosmetic goals and preferences. Although Botox may be very popular, it should be noted that it’s not as effective in treating all kinds of problems that has to do with the appearance of jowls, folds, and wrinkles in the face. In fact, Botox is not an all-purpose injectable.

Botox is currently FDA-approved to improve the appearance of frown lines and crow’s feet. It has also been shown to work best in eliminating forehead creases, neck bands, and excessive sweating. In general, Botox is ideal for wrinkles that are created by repeated movements of the muscle.

3. Find out if there are alternative injectables that suit your cosmetic concerns or if you can have both Botox and dermal fillers to achieve maximum results. Take Botox and Restylane for example. The former can help improve the appearance of wrinkles formed by frequent muscle contraction while the latter can help replace lost volume giving way to a more naturally youthful yet subtle looks.
