Types of Chin Augmentation
We offer two types of genioplasty in our clinic in Cleveland, OH. Sliding genioplasty is our preferred method of treatment for patients with chin deformities, asymmetry, or deficiency; this technique allows the surgeon to move the segment in different locations to deal with complex chin deformities. In the case of excess chin, bone shaving without bone cut can be adequate. For minor chin deficiencies only, if there is a need to achieve balance and proportion in the face, chin implants can be used.
For our patients, sliding genioplasty is achieved by making an incision inside the lower lip; from this point, Dr. Ali Totonchi will perform the bone cut and move and affix the bone segment in the desired position. A chin implant, on the other hand, is inserted via a small incision below the chin. The ideal type of genioplasty surgery will be determined during consultation in our plastic surgery clinic. Genioplasty is a procedure typically performed under general anesthesia.
Chin Augmentation Recovery
The healing process is crucial in achieving the desired results with genioplasty. As such, each of our patients will be provided with instructions on proper post-operative care following the genioplasty procedure.
