It should be noted that not all new mothers are perfect candidates for the surgery. Below are the 3 most important questions that you might want to ask yourself before finally making the decision to have breast augmentation, liposuction, and/or a tummy tuck for a Mommy Makeover here at our Cleveland plastic surgery practice.
Are you within your ideal body weight?
Both liposuction and a tummy tuck in a Mommy Makeover are body-contouring surgeries, not weight-loss procedures. Thus the need for you to lose weight via diet, exercise, or bariatric surgery, and have it within the ideal range before having surgery. Having the surgery with an excess of unhealthy weight may increase your risks of complications post-surgery.
Are you still planning to have more children in the future?
By and large, a woman can still get pregnant and have a child after a Mommy Makeover. The procedure itself won’t affect a woman’s ability to reproduce. However, getting pregnant and giving birth following a Mommy Makeover has a drawback – it can actually cause your abdominal muscles to separate again and negate the effects of surgery. If you still have plans of having another child in the household, it may be best to wait for your last childbirth before having plastic surgery.
Are you done breastfeeding?
When you’re nursing, increased blood vessel activity around the breast area is increased. The breast ducts involved in lactation are also enlarged. Both physiological events can increase your risk for bleeding and infection post-plastic surgery.
