Some plastic surgery procedures, when done simultaneously, have a better aesthetic result.

Nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty) combined with chin enhancement surgery (genioplasty) is an example of a single combined procedure, with added cosmetic benefit.

Rhinoplasty can have both cosmetic and functional benefits. Rhinoplasty surgery gives balance to the nose and can improve breathing with modifications of the nasal structure, such as turbinate reduction and septoplasty if needed. Cosmetic corrections to the nose are often done to change the tip of the nose, straighten the nose, narrow the width, or minimize the dorsal hump of the nose.

A rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. Incisions are made either inside the nose cavity or across the columella, which is the strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. An incision made through these areas will make the incisions inconspicuous. The tissues will then be raised to access the underlying bone and cartilage tissues in order to make necessary repairs or alterations.

If any augmentation is needed to any area of the nose, this can be achieved by harvesting cartilage from the septum, ear or chest wall. Once the desired nose contour is achieved, the incisions are closed and are lined along the natural creases of the nose to reduce visibility.

Genioplasty can be done with chin enhancement implants, or as an osseous genioplasty, which adjusts the jawbone, to change the look of the chin and enhance the lower face. Genioplasty surgery may be chosen to correct a concavity of the midface, or a convex profile with a prominent nose and recessed chin. Genioplasty can greatly improve facial appearance and structure.

The combined procedure is done to achieve facial balance. Facial balance is determined by the features of the chin, nose and forehead. Even subtle adjustments can make dramatic results with the rhinoplasty/genioplasty procedure. Rhinoplasty and genioplasty surgery combined complement each other. When the chin and nose are enhanced simultaneously the outcome gives you the best aesthetic result.

A splint will be placed outside the nose to help support the new shape as the nose heals. In the case of septoplasty or straightening the septum, nasal stents are used which usually are removed in 1-2 weeks. You should expect your incisions to heal after about one week. The swelling and bruising will remain for a few weeks after the procedure. Do not be alarmed if the swelling comes and goes during recovery, as this is completely normal. Once the swelling subsides, you will begin to see your new nose and chin contours define and develop. Your new contours will fully refine about a year after your rhinoplasty/genioplasty surgery.
