Is it time for a Forehead/Brow lift?

A forehead/brow lift surgery is one of the most effective ways to take years off your face, and achieve a refreshed, more alert appearance.

Many people are bothered by expression lines in the brow and forehead region that develop as we age.  A forehead lift will minimize the appearance of these lines, and help to smooth frown lines, which are the vertical lines that develop between the eyebrows. Some people have brows that sag and hood over the upper eyelids. The brow lift procedure rejuvenates tired looking eyes, resulting in a more revitalized, alert appearance.

A forehead/brow lift surgery can also be done in combination with a face lift and/or other cosmetic procedures to maximize treatment effects. Although a forehead/brow lift surgery is quite effective on its own, for some patients it is recommended that forehead/brow lift surgery be done together with other facial enhancements to maintain continuity of a youthful appearance throughout the entire face.

Many people combine the brow lift surgery, not only with face and neck lift, but upper and/or lower blepharoplasty and CO2 laser resurfacing to achieve their desired aesthetic goals.

Dr. Ali Totonchi uses two techniques in performing forehead/brow lift surgery.

  • Endoscopic Lift (minimally invasive technique)– a forehead/brow lift surgery performed using the endoscopic technique differs from an open technique in that the endoscopic procedure requires making a few small incisions in the patient’s scalp instead of one continuous, long incision. After the insertion of an endoscopic access devices to protect the skin, a scope is then inserted into the incisions to help view the underlying tissues and muscles. This technique aids the surgeon in making the necessary alterations while viewing the underlying muscles and tissues of the patient from the scope.
  • Open technique – This technique is used primarily for rejuvenation of the forehead in patients who have wider foreheads fore rejuvenation and possible forehead shortenning. A forehead/brow lift surgery using the open lift technique uses one continuous incision in the hairline. The procedure begins above the ears in the hairline and proceeds upwards. Dr. Ali Totonchi makes a curvilinear incision to make the scars inconspicuous. The underlying tissues and muscles are then adjusted to provide support for the skin. Sometimes a Co2 laser is used over the incision after closure to minimize scar visibility.

In both techniques for forehead/brow lift surgery, the soft tissue is lifted and secured using suture, which is passed from a small bone tunnel to provide additional support for the underlying tissues and muscles. This suturing technique helps maintain the result of the brow lift for years.  The forehead/brow lift surgery is an effective way to help battle the signs of aging and help to look your best.
