A facelift is also known, as rhytidectomy is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. A nicely executed facelift will give you a more youthful yet natural look. Over time, men and women alike may become concerned with signs of aging, such as facial wrinkles and sagging skin. A facelift is the right procedure for you if you have these conditions:
- Sagging around the middle of your face
- Deep lines and creases around your mouth or below your eyes.
- Loose skin around the chin and jaw line.
During a facelift, excess sagging skin is removed to achieve a smoother, more youthful facial contour. With a traditional facelift, the incision begins in the hairline, continues around the ear and ends in the lower scalp. The incisions are placed in natural skin folds or the hairlines to assist in concealing the scars. Dr.Totonchi usually uses the CO2 laser at the time of surgery to further minimize the scars appearance. The laser helps to facility scar healing and maturation and assists in minimizing redness.
If you have an excessive amount of fat especially in the neck area, fat removal and neck muscle tightening (neck lift) can be performed in conjunction with a facelift for optimal results.
After surgery, you will have a drain on each side of your face, behind your ear, which stays intact for approximately 5 days. Dr. Totonchi does not use bandages to the face after his facelift procedures. He uses Aquaphor or a post procedure laser kit if CO2 laser is done in combination with a facelift to treat the fine wrinkles.
You can expect the bruising and swelling to subside a couple of weeks after your procedure. The recovery time depends greatly on the details of your facelift procedure and any other added procedures you chose to obtain your aesthetic goal.
You can appreciate the results of a facelift almost immediately after recovery.
