Getting the procedure done is just half of the story when it comes to plastic surgery. The other half involves the recovery process. Here at our Cleveland plastic surgery, we aim to help you heal and recover well following surgery. However, you also need to do your part in ensuring a healthy, smooth, and satisfying recovery on your end. How? Read on below!

  • Have a plan. Like everything else in life, chance favors the prepared! You may have to skip work or school for a couple of days or weeks thus the need to have everything ironed out while you’re away. Also, you need to make sure that someone will be with you during the first few days following surgery to help you out with hygiene, medications, and your diet.

  • If you have surgery in the head and neck areas, keep in mind that you need to elevate the area often to avoid swelling which is a common occurrence following such types of surgery.

  • You might want to shun the sun while recovering. Sun exposure can actually delay healing and cause skin color change.

  • For swelling and bruising following surgery, apply cold compress according to your surgeon’s advice (length of time, amount of ice, etc) depending on the type of surgery performed, this is usually done in the first 24 hours after surgery, but again it is dependent on surgeon and procedure.

  • Always stick to your surgeon’s instructions, including dosage of medications, when you can resume exercise, and what to eat following surgery.

  • Lastly, be realistic about your expectations. The thing is, you may not like what you’ll look like right after a face lift or a tummy tuck. There will be bruises and considerable swelling. The real results will appear over time. So do not panic and allow for healing to take place.

The aforementioned tips apply to plastic surgery in general. Each procedure has its own set of recovery tips specific to its nature and cosmetic goal.
