Breast Augmentation – Avoiding Complications by Working with an Experienced Practitioner

Breast AugmentationPlastic surgery or body sculpting was once the exclusive domain of celebrities, but it has now become commonplace for everyone. Among females, breast implants are still more popular than other cosmetic surgery procedures, including liposuction, nose jobs, and lip augmentation. In fact, breast implant surgeries have surged 40% in the past decade or so, with more than 300, 000 women undergone a procedure to increase their breast size.

Breast implant surgery is performed in a hospital or outpatient surgery center under  general anesthesia. The implants are basically medical devices surgically implanted under the chest muscle or under the breast tissue to increase overall breast size. Two types of breast implants are available these days – silicone implants and saline implants – and they vary in shell thickness, size, and contour. Saline breast implants are good in the sense that they contain salt water and a surgeon can make small changes in case the implant is not perfectly symmetrical. The upside of using silicone-filled breast implants is that they contain elastic silicone gel, so the implants mimic the same texture of a woman’s breast.

It is important that only an experienced surgeon handles it all or it may lead to several complications and adverse outcomes, such as capsular contracture, breast pain, asymmetry, deflation, changes in breast sensation, and rupture. No such issues arise though when you decide to come to Totonchi.

We discuss all details with the patient and explain the pros and cons of using specific types of breast implants. Most patients opt for silicon-filled breast implants for its softness, but we make it clear to the patient that it may require a longer incision under the breast. We perform all cosmetic surgery procedures in our certified facilities on an outpatient basis. We prefer general anesthesia, especially when using silicone-filled breast implants. A patient sees immediate changes after the surgery.
